Choose livability and re-imagine the Curve
The proposed East-West Connector/Couplet project, a segment of the original Curve project, is a proposed highway improvement designed to facilitate the movement of vehicles through downtown. We’ve seen similar projects throughout the nation unintentionally invite more and more vehicles into the hearts of our communities, clogging our liveability.
As a group of Granary District business owners, we have challenged ourselves to envision possibilities that prioritize community and livability rather than convenient vehicular mobility. We believe if the pavement lands and the stripes are painted -- there is no going back, period. Now is the time to take an old railroad right-of-way, which is a major artery to the heart of our community, and reimagine all the possibilities. Incredible things only come from dreaming big.
For those who say it’s the property of the state -- we remind them that we the people of this community are the state. And states are buying, selling, trading, and giving away right-of-way corridors throughout the nation every day.
As we work to resolve mobility issues, we believe new and innovative uses can be realized.
Greenbelts and outdoor spaces give communities life -- a place to gather, breathe, and connect. The more of them we create the healthier our community. These images are meant to be seeds. We invite you to plant them in your mind and see what may grow -- maybe one day, it produces fruit.
